MOTORISTS heading north on the A38 yesterday morning were faced with traffic misery following a five-vehicle smash.
The northbound carriageway was initially closed after the crash which happened near Mickleover at about 7.40am, sending traffic tailing back to Toyota island.
Traffic in the area was diverted with journeys extended by around 15 minutes.
Motorists were warned to avoid the area where possible, with bus operator Trent Barton also telling passengers via Twitter that services could be affected.
Vehicles began moving along the A38 half an hour later when the outside lane was reopened.
Nobody was thought to have been injured in the crash.
There was also disruption for motorists travelling along the A50 yesterday morning after sheep made their way onto the carriageway.
Traffic backed up at the Sudbury roundabout as drivers negotiated the animals.
It remained slow going on the stretch for around half an hour after the sheep were guided from the road.
