AIR cadets from the 1211 Swadlincote Squadron have been crowned Midlands champions in the South and East Midlands Wing annual Wing Field Day competition – for the seventh time in 13 years.

The competition saw 24 cadets competing against other squadrons in the region in a range of air cadet activities including first aid, parade drill, ceremonial drill, target shooting, leadership exercises, aircraft recognition, aircraft modelling, media design and photographs.

The winners' trophy was presented by Wing Commander Nigel Dickinson OBE at RAF Wittering in Cambridgeshire, where the competition took place.

It was collected by the squadron's senior cadet, 19-year-old cadet warrant officer Joy Wakeling from Swadlincote.

She said: "Marching up to the wing commander to receive the award on behalf of the whole squadron was an honour, knowing how much effort everyone has put into the training and the competition on the day.

"All the cadets are very excited and proud of themselves for doing so well."
