Elaine Paige - The Ultimate Collection

CELEBRATING her 50th anniversary in the music business, the first lady of musical theatre has released a compilation of career highlights.

And trust me there have been many over the last half century. Includes songs from some of her most iconic stage roles such as Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, Memory, La Vie En Rose, As If We Never Said Goodbye, and I Know Him So Well, a duet performed with Barbara Dickson from the musical Chess. Paige has also selected some of her favourite tracks from past albums and put a contemporary spin on Be On Your Own from the musical Nine.

There is no denying that Paige is good at what she does and has a genuine love for all things musical – even if she has never appeared in the show. I admire and salute someone who can be at the top of their game for so many years – and also for looking as fabulous now as she ever did.

Particular favourites for me on this album is I Dreamed a Dream, The Prayer (dueted with Barry Manilow) and For One Night Only.

Gets five out of five stars from me.
