A BURTON-BASED pub giant has spent £250,000 revamping a village pub – creating 15 new jobs in the process.

The Crown Inn, based in Post Office Road, Alrewas, is to reopen later this week following a major joint investment of £250,000 by new licensee Mary McMeechan in partnership with Punch Taverns, based on the Centrum 100 business estate.

The pub was closed for seven weeks while the refurbishment was carried out and the new-look site has seen the bar completely repositioned, a new outside drinking area created and upgraded toilets installed .

New licensee Mary, who also runs The Swan with Two Necks in Longdon, is excited about the reopening.

She told the Mail: “The pub look fantastic and I can’t believe the transformation.

“The investment has given the pub the new facilities to deliver our food offer, while creating a stylish and homely meeting place.

“The team and I look forward to the reopening and welcoming some old and new faces back to the pub to celebrate the new look with us.”

The pub will be introducing a range of new drinks, including cask ales, cocktails, fine wines and speciality coffees.

It will also boast a new food menu featuring home-made specialities made from locally sourced produce.

Thursday will be fresh fish night and Friday will be steak night.

A new stone-baked pizza oven has been installed to keep up with similar offerings at sites such as The Waterfront at Barton Marina.

Punch Taverns’ partnership development manager Paul Taylor is looking forward to the launch.

He said: “It’s great that Punch can invest in our pubs, and we essentially want to reposition the Crown as one of the leading pubs to provide great drinks and destination dining for residents in Alrewas and the surrounding areas.

“We are all delighted with the transformation and I believe customers will enjoy this great quality pub. I am very confident that Mary and her team will be able to deliver a terrific experience.”
