A FAMILY from Newhall is hoping for help from the community to track down a missing cockatiel.

White feathered fugitive Kalinka went missing on Tuesday afternoon, when her cage was being unloaded from the car and taken into a house in Wood Lane.

The owner was taking the bird, along with two others, into his mother's house, as she was due to look after the pets while he was away with family.

But the clasp on the cage broke as he lifted it out of the back of the car, and the bird got out and flew away.

Nancy Booth, the owner's mother, said the bird had not got away in the six years her son had owned it.

Kalinka was heard in a tree one street up on Tuesday, but has not been seen since.

Mrs Booth said: "I hope someone has taken it in and is looking after it.

"I don't mind as long as it's OK."

Anyone with any information about the bird should call 01283 219080.
