ASTON Villa legend Ian Taylor has agreed to mentor two newly-formed under-eight teams in Alrewas to help them play at the top of their game.

He has joined Alrewas Colts under-eight teams to assist in guiding the budding young sides, formed by three parents who are all Football Association (FA) trained.

Having identified the need for a more local team for his son, head coach Mark Orton along with fellow parents Guy Moran and Darren Walker, first underwent the necessary FA coaching qualifications at St George's Park, in Burton, earlier this year.

He said: "We are all very excited about the coming football season, and we already have a friendly match planned against Whittington this month. Our main aim is that the children have fun and enjoy themselves."

The group has also been able to secure sponsorship from the Kingfisher Cafe at Fradley Junction,

Mr Taylor, who played for Aston Villa from 1996, said: "It is fantastic to see these young players enjoying football so much and I am proud to be able to help with a bit of guidance and support for the team."
