DERBYSHIRE County Council has revealed a number of successes in dealing with youngsters across the area.

The authority revealed that 98.7 per cent of children were offered their first choice secondary school – this was better than the national average of 85.3 per cent.

A survey of primary school children showed that 99.2 per cent enjoyed their school meals and around 48 per cent of pupils now ate school dinners.

Absenteeism fell from 7.7 per cent to 4.8 per cent last year and there had also been a 25 per cent reduction in the number of fixed terms exclusions of children in care.
