AN armed robber who threatened staff at a store in South Derbyshire was thwarted by a have-a-go hero.

The man pulled what appeared to be a gun on terrified staff at Granville Stores, in Swadlincote Road, Woodville, at 6.45pm yesterday, demanding cigarettes and cash before being tackled by a customer who forced him out of the store.

The robber then ran off down Swadlincote Road towards the ski centre.

A manhunt is now under way with police eager to hear from anyone who is in the area at the time.

He is described as white, about six feet tall and was wearing a white overall, and had his face covered by a scarf.

Anyone who has any information should call 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
