SCORES of families were reportedly evacuated from their homes after a man doused himself in petrol and threatened to set himself on fire.
The drama is said to have unfolded in Horninglow Road, Burton, on Saturday, when a man covered in fuel reportedly made the threat.
Emergency crews from the fire service waited on standby while police closed the road to traffic.
A spokesman from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed officers were called but would not release further information.
Social media buzzed following the commotion. Staffordshire county councillor for Burton Tower Division Conor Wileman tweeted that he hoped the man was billed for wasting the time of emergency services.
He said: "Hope the person in Horninglow who has poured petrol over himself through drink is given a bill for wasting emergency services time."
Amelia Gale tweeted: "Emergency vehicles everywhere down Horninglow Road. Everyone is being diverted but it's deadlocked."
