A MAN was taken to hospital after a broken-down car was hit by a van on a busy route in South Derbyshire.
Motorists faced lengthy delays after the stationary Mitsubishi Colt was struck by an oncoming Mercedes Sprinter Van on the eastbound junction of the A50, near Hilton, at around 6.10am this morning.
The smash sent the car hurtling off the road, with one lane closed for more than three hours while the vehicles were recovered.
An ambulance and firefighters from Tutbury and Kingsway were in attendance at the scene.
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said the man taken to hospital was not thought to be seriously injured.
The lane closure led to substantial delays along the A50.
A lane was also closed on the A42, near Ashby, this morning after a crash between junction 12 and the A511 exit at around 7.30am.
