BURTON Albion defender Marcus Holness has joined Tranmere Rovers on a two-year deal.
The 25-year-old centre-half was offered a new contract by the Brewers but would have had to play second fiddle to first choice pairing Ian Sharps and Shane Cansdell-Sherriff.
Instead he has signed for the Prenton Park side as they look to bounce straight back to League One following their relegation last season.
"Marcus is a strong, quick defender who will fit in well here," said Rovers boss Rob Edwards.
“He’s got plenty of experience with Rochdale and Burton Albion in League Two and he’s a player who will give his all for the club.
“He’s good in the air, fast and is a player I’ve been impressed by every time I’ve seen him.”
Holness made 53 appearances in two years for the Brewers, scoring twice – one a memorable goal as Albion beat Southend to reach Wembley in this season's play-offs.
