NATURE has its own way of commemorating the centenary of the First World War, as these beautiful wild poppies flourish along the banks of the canal near Barton under Needwood.

This amazing photograph of the red and purple poppies was taken by Lynne Ruane as she walked along the canal.

While the poppies are beautiful in their own way, they are also a timely reminder of all the people who lost their lives at war, as well as all of the brave soldiers who are still fighting for the country today.

In honour of the soldiers, the National Memorial Arboretum is holding a World War One weekend starting today.

The Burton Mail is always happy to publish photos taken by its readers.

If you have a keen eye for a photo and wish to send in any pictures, email them to us at photographers@burtonmail.co.uk.

Pictures should be no bigger than 3mb.
