ROYAL British Legion officials in Barton under Needwood are hoping to top their impressive fund-raising total for last year as work gets under way for this year's campaign.

The branch raised a staggering £5,621.99 over 2013/14 and volunteers are hoping this year's total will be even higher – but they need more help.

Branch chairman David Sherratt said: "We have a stalwart group of house-to-house collectors who come out every year, rain or shine, and I would like to say a big thank you to them for collecting most of the total.

"The numbers have, unfortunately, reduced over recent years and we are looking for volunteers to take up the collecting box and help with this vital part of the Poppy Appeal."

The branch meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm at Barton Bowls Club. There are currently opportunities for positions within the group.
