UNDER-STRENGTH Barton slumped to their first defeat of the season against a much improved Chesterfield.

With skipper Jamie Foster, Will Rawbon and Ash Parr unavailable Barton fielded father and son combination Simon and Jacob Buxton while Max Lambert also returned to the side.

Some uncharacteristic slack marking saw Barton go 2-0 down inside the first 10 minutes.

Barton tightened towards the end of the first half and began to create the odd chance of their own. Adam Foster went close after latching onto an aerial through ball from brother Jacob.

Luke Deacon went close with a well-struck reverse-stick effort awhile John Hickman saw his drag-flick well saved by a defender on the line at a penalty corner.

After the break Barton looked to press forward but were exposed to the Chesterfield counter and fell 3-0 behind just five minutes in.

The league leaders rallied and the pressure finally paid off when Jon Naseby found Adam Foster on the edge of the Chesterfield D. He beat his man before pulling the ball back to brother Jacob who fired an unstoppable reverse-stick shot into the far corner.

Jacob Foster then reduced the deficit to just one when he fired past the keeper from the top of the D after good work from Mark Moore and Craig Tilke.

Adam Foster then came close before Chesterfield hit them on the break again to reopen a two-goal cushion. Barton were given another lifeline when Hickman cooly slotted home a penalty stroke after the ball had struck a Chesterfield defender on the line. But two late penalty corners sealed victory for Chesterfield.
