A place where residents and staff feel like one big family
FIRST impressions at Bearwood House Residential Care Home are that each residents’ needs are paramount.
The fully compliant care home’s signature is in its attention to detail and the staff endeavour to provide the highest standard of quality care and integrity.
“Each resident is valued here,” said Dena Griffin, owner of Bearwood House for more than 10 years.
“The staff are conscious to the needs of individuals and take time to get to know each resident and their background history. The care plans are specially tailored to suit each resident.”
Located in a quiet area of Winshill, the beautiful Victorian building is steeped in history and is the former residence of Sir Clifford Gothard, one of Burton’s leading civic figures. He was a leading linchpin of the Conservative Party and a director of companies including Marston’s and the Burton Mail.
Ideally positioned in Bearwood Hill Road, the home is close to many local amenities and within easy reach of Burton upon Trent.
The care home has recently received a £250,000 refurbishment with a purpose-built ground floor rooms and comprises two lounges, one dining area, and an outside patio and a garden. All of the new bedrooms are en suite and are beautifully decorated to a high standard.
As you step through the doors of Bearwood House you are immediately transported into a calm environment which resonates a warm and homely ambience. Residents feel happy and secure here with one lady remarking ‘I love it here, I couldn’t be happier’.
The daughter of another resident at the home was so impressed with the standard of care she said: “my mother loves it here, she is so happy and content; I really couldn’t have chosen a more supportive and caring environment.”
The home has recently been appointed a new manager who brings with her a wealth of nursing experience having worked in the care sector for many years.
She has extensive knowledge of managing care homes and is liked by everyone, staff, residents and visitors alike. Her skill and caring manner bring an element of harmony to the home. With on-site 24 hour care all of our residents feel at home with the added element of feeling safe and secure.
There are many pastimes and activities available with regular sing-a-longs and the occasional pantomime. Staff are always thinking up new ideas to keep residents entertained. New experiences and ideas are encouraged and staff are always considerate to everyone’s needs and open minded to any special requests residents may have for a new activity.

Mealtimes at Bearwood House are always a highlight of the day as the menu, which is alternated on a daily basis is freshly cooked on site using local produce. All food served is hearty and wholesome and the residents are provided with a rich and extensive menu with the option of enjoying their meal in the comfort of their own room.
Everyone here is always extremely complimentary of the ‘fantastic food’ on offer. Dena said: “It is our policy to encourage family members to dine at Bearwood House and sample some of the nutritious meals provided by our cooks, one who has been here for more than 20 years.”
Dena is extremely passionate about providing the very best care for the residents.

“We want to be known for the best care in Staffordshire and hold our residents in high esteem. We have many plans in the pipeline and one is to hold a monthly open day at Bearwood House and we want people to come along and see how content and happy our residents are.
“We extend a warm welcome to anyone that would like to come along with any questions they may have regarding the care of their loved ones.
