ALEX Benfield finished fifth and Cory Parker sixth with excellent performances at the Derby 10K road race.
The Burton AC athletes were around three minutes behind winner Richard Weir, who came home in a time of 31mins 17secs for Derby AC.
Benfield recorded a personal best of 34:10, with Parker next in in 34:22.
The race closed the Streets of Derby city centre on Sunday morning and climaxed with a spectacular finish inside Derby County’s iPro Stadium.
With nearly 5,000 competitors, Benfield and Parker were among the sub-35 minute runners on the starting line – and were certainly not out of place with the best.
They set off together and worked off one another as they pounded the city streets.
This helped them move through the field and pick off runners one by one, finishing stronger than many of their rivals.
Meanwhile, a little further back was veteran runner Ian Parker, who was also having a good race and was extremely pleased with a time of 42:53 for 297th place.
