A STALWART of sports for disabled people has been honoured yet again for her long service to people in the area.
Beryl Horton, who runs swimming and football sessions for people with disabilities, picked up her Torch Trophy Trust award to mark her decades of tireless voluntary work in Burton and Swadlincote at an event in London last night.
The accolade comes hot on the heels of the British Empire Medal, which was bestowed on Mrs Horton in the New Year Honours List, and less than two years after she was selected as an Olympic torch bearer for London 2012.
Mrs Horton was nominated for the award by Ray Ashley, from the English Federation of Disability Sport.
She received the award from Princess Anne, the Princess Royal.
The Torch Trophy Trust was founded in 1962 to recognise outstanding achievement for sports volunteers.
