‘WATCH out for bikes’ is the latest message issued by the Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership.
The group’s new research revealed that more than half of drivers are ‘often surprised when a rider appears from nowhere’.
A total of 55 per cent were shocked when greeted with a cyclist.
Mike Ashworth, chairman of the partnership’s managing group, said: “In reality those on two wheels never appear from nowhere so as drivers we need to be more alert. Our advice is to look twice for bikes.
“Bikers can make themselves easier to spot by using choosing riding gear that is fluorescent.”
