STRIKER Billy Kee has set himself a target of “15 to 20” goals this season after signing for Burton Albion.

The 20-year-old front runner has joined the Brewers from Torquay United for a fee in the region of £20,000.

He signed a two-year deal and goes straight into the squad for today’s trip to face former club Accrington Stanley.

The former Leicester City youth player, who is from the Quorn area, said: “I’d like 15 to 20 goals this season — it’s time for me to push on now in my career.

“Burton was my first choice and I’m really glad to be here.

“It’s perfect for me coming here as I only live 20 minutes down the road.”

Kee, a Northern Ireland under-21 international through ancestry, suffered from homesickness while at Torquay, but still managed to crack nine goals as they reached the play-offs last season.

The season before last, Kee was on loan with Accrington, scoring nine league goals.

He said: “I’ve played against Burton a few times and they’re a good passing team.

“If I start scoring goals I’ll be pushing to get in the team.”

Brewers boss Paul Peschisolido sprung something of a surprise by signing a striker instead of a defender — but found the opportunity to sign one of the brightest prospects in League Two too good to turn down.

He said: “Something came up in the last week and he’s a player I like.

“He’s different to what we’ve got — he’s got aggression and he’s a goalscorer.

“Billy’s a fantastic signing.”

Peschisolido describes Kee as a player who will score all manner of goals and compete with Calvin Zola, Justin Richards, Greg Pearson and Adi Yussuf for a place up front.

He said: “We’ve got five strikers in the squad — it’s a fantastic number.

“I learned from Neil Warnock, who used to have about seven, that you’re only as good as your strikers — and he’d have three on the bench.

“Billy is a bright player to say the least. He likes to find little pockets of space and can link the play.

“He can score the ‘worldy’ goals out of nothing, which he did against us last season, as well as the ordinary goals.

“He’s a proper, natural goalscorer.”

STRIKER James Ellison has signed for Blue Square Bet Premier new boys Alfreton Town on a one-month loan deal.

The 19-year-old signed for Albion last summer following his release from Liverpool, making three appearances for the Brewers.

Ellison also spent spells on loan at Stafford Rangers and Hednesford Town but suffered a disrupted season after being stabbed on a night out in Liverpool.

He has not featured for the Brewers first-team so far this season but scored twice in the first reserve match of the season against Nottingham Forest this week.

Peschisolido said: “It’s a great move for James’ development.

He’s become a bit of a forgotten man here but in fairness over the last couple of weeks he’s trained superbly.”
