TWO police officers will be cycling to raise money for charity in memory of a nine-year-old boy and veterans of our armed services.

Sgt Nigel Roberts, from East Staffordshire Local Policing Team, and PC Dave Rowley based at police headquarters in Stafford, will be cycling from Yoxall to Barmouth in Wales and back in one day on June 28.

They will be in the saddle for 14 hours, cycling 222 miles.

Sgt Roberts will be riding to raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Midland Air Ambulance in memory of Lee Tomlinson.

PC Rowley, whose son is serving in Afghanistan with 3 Royal Horse Artillery, will also be raising funds for a veterans’ mental health charity, Combat Stress.

Hospital decision is set to be finalised today

A DECISION on whether to go ahead and close Ashby’s community hospital will be taken on Tuesday.

A project board established to consider the hospital’s future is recommending services move out, which will lead to closure.

Instead, outpatient services will move to new locations and more health care will be provided for people at home.
