ROGUE traders and and unlicensed waste carriers have been targeted by East Staffordshire Borough Council and Staffordshire Police.

The civil enforcement team inspected four scrap metal sites in the borough and found that they were all complying with the law.

In addition, 29 drivers were spoken to in relation to their commercial activities, only two of whom appeared to be scrap metal collectors.

Deputy leader for regulatory services Sonia Andjelkovic said: "By our officers working together with other agencies we hope to clean up the scrap metal industry in East Staffordshire and protect our community, businesses and reputable dealers from rogues and thieves who cause such damage, distress and disruption."

The team also spoke to rubber tubing suppliers, car audio services, carpet fitters, charitable collectors, builders and wholesaler delivery drivers but following checks, they deemed it unnecessary for any further action to be taken.
