Boss of drugs company handed a top award

THE boss of a Burton-based pharmaceutical giant has scooped a top award.

Peter George, chief executive of the Clinigen Group, based in Centrum 100, has been named Chief Executive of the Year Award at the 2014 European Mediscience Awards.

The judges handed Mr George the gong after leading Clinigen through a successful listing on the London Stock Exchange’s AIM in September 2012.

Ian Renstall,chairman of the judging panel said, “Every member of the shortlist for this award is an inspirational leader, but for the panel, Peter stood out as the driving force behind Clinigen’s meteoric rise.

“His energy, drive and commitment to creating a rare community culture in which all members of the Group hold shares, sharing in its success, is striking.”

Mr George said, “I am incredibly proud to receive this award, especially in view of the calibre of those shortlisted alongside me.

“Although my name is on the award, it is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of everyone at Clinigen who has helped build the group into a leading global provider in the specialty pharma sector.”

Online initiative set up to help boost business

A NEW #AshbyHour Twitter hashtag has been launched by community website Ashby Monitor.

A successful #Hours already runs in Burton and now, on Tuesdays, from 8pm to 9pm, Twitter users in the Ashby area can join in their own conversation using the #AshbyHour hashtag in their messages.

A spokesman for Ashby Monitor, which can be found on Twitter at @ashbymonitor, said: “Our town is a bustling area packed full of interesting, energetic, inventive independent businesses and hundreds of volunteers working hard on an amazing variety of good causes.”

Date of annual summer fair event announced

THE date of the Milton summer fair has been announced.

It will take place from 11am to 4pm on Sunday, June 29 on the paddocks adjoining Mill Farm, in Milton.
