A HISTORIC sporting relationship will allow Burton Rugby Football Club to use the Pirelli Stadium for their annual sporting dinner.
Burton Albion's facilities will be used for the first time by the rugby club at a celebration that will see former Leicester Tigers star Rory Underwood speak.
David Gill, a long serving committee member at the rugby club, said: "Having held this event over many years at a variety of different locations, this year for the first time the rugby club committee chose the Pirelli Stadium.
"Burton Albion's chairman, Ben Robinson, has been a regular supporter of the rugby club over many years, going back to the days when the two clubs joined forces to launch the Burton Sports Lottery back in the 1980s.
"We are looking forward to a great night and many of the older generation will recall having seen Rory Underwood dashing down the wing at Twickenham."
Guest speaker Mr Underwood will be joined by comedian Lester Crabtree. Tickets will be priced at £40 for the event, with a four-course meal included.
Burton Albion chairman Ben Robinson was heavily involved in building the relationship between the clubs.
"We're delighted the rugby club have chosen the Pirelli to host their sporting dinner," he said.
"We've had a close association for many years. Our work together helps to support both ourselves, and the community.
"I even recall back in the 80s we created a 'footby' mascot, representing a combination of rugby and football."
The dinner takes place on September 25 and is an essential fundraiser for the rugby club.
