BURTON Albion have awarded new deals to seven of the squad which got them to the verge of League One this season.

Boss Gary Rowett has moved quickly to tie down the players he wants to keep for 2013/14, as well as signing Shane Cansdell-Sherriff from Preston.

Phil Edwards, Lee Bell and Chris Hussey have got one-year extensions to stay at the Pirelli Stadium, while Dean Lyness, Dominic Knowles and Marcus Harness have been awarded two-year deals.

Cansdell-Sherriff, who had a very successful loan spell at the Pirelli this season, has also signed a two-year contract following his release at Deepdale yesterday.

Ian Sharps penned a new contract during the season, taking him through to next summer.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Freddy Hall, David Gray, Zander Diamond – who has a three-year contract at Northampton – Jack Dyer, Gary Alexander and Michael Symes have all been released.

Contracts are currently on the table for Robbie Weir, Damien McCrory, Marcus Holness and young defender Liam Slade.

Weir and McCrory were offered new terms last summer, but have waited to assess all their options.

Jimmy Phillips, who is currently recovering from a serious knee injury, is being looked after by the club with a short-term contract until he is fit, in recognition of his long service to the Brewers.

Loan players Rob Lainton, Callum McFadzean, Ashley Hemmings and Zeli Ismail have returned to their parent clubs.
