DAMIEN McCrory is on course to be fit by the start of September but could miss the first month of the season for Burton Albion.

The 24-year-old left-back – who signed a new two-year contract at the Pirelli Stadium last week – had an operation towards the end of last season to clear out cartilage in one of his knees.

Brewers boss Gary Rowett says the defender’s recovery is on course.

“Damo’s target is for two to four weeks into the season,” he said. “That’s only a rough guess, though, and we’ll know more as he progresses.”

Jimmy Phillips, who tore his posterior cruciate ligament when hit with a nasty tackle at Newport in April, should return to training by November and could be back in action around Christmas time.
