I thought things went well in the first half as we restricted and frustrated Scunny, broke well but didn’t have that killer touch – again.
Billy (Kee) isn’t at his best in a lone striker role.
After their goal we had to go 4-4-2, we were tame up front again and Scunny just had the experience to frustrate us and see the game out.
Obviously no shame in losing up there against a strong side who are so long unbeaten, but I left feeling a bit flat that we hadn’t properly threatened their goal and that automatic promotion may be a step too far.
But if we win Tuesday and results go our way, perspective changes again.
Plus, I’m sure GR (Gary Rowett) will bring in one or two more faces.
Totally understood the tactics of playing 4-5-1 to start with, but for me that paid too much of a compliment to Scunthorpe, who for me were very ordinary
A decent strike from a poor clearance by one of our lads won a scruffy game
With (Marcus) Holness having to go off i guess the manager’s hand was forced for his third and final substitution, but for me the only player likely to change the game for us – McGurk – had to remain on the bench.
(Rory) Delap, (Rene) Howe, (Adam) Reed wages are all gone.
Half, or more, of Zander Diamond’s and (Chris) Hussey’s wages are gone.
There must be money in the pot, but we should have signed a striker in January.
Not moaning, stating an opinion.
Thought we played ok, but again didn’t create anything up front.
I’m not a fan of using just one striker – the midfield need to get forward more and help Billy (Kee).
Unless we suddenly find a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow we will have to adapt our play to two up front and try shooting occasionally.
Difference is, Paddy Madden cost £300k, Our whole team combined cost £20k, and that was just Billy (Kee).
There were 390 of us. Great atmosphere, we played okay but need to win games to get promotion.
I thought two evenly matched teams, with similar tactics, but Scunthorpe just had that extra quality in the attacking areas.
The two subs on 55 minutes for them changed their tempo slightly and put us a bit more on the back foot.
We need to add a bit of quality into the squad again in my opinion.
I’m the first to criticise (Adam) McGurk, but at this time, he is maybe the player we need to find that special something.
A bit on the back foot at the moment, but as fans we need to stay positive and continue to get behind the lads.
Roll on three points Tuesday
