BURTON Albion salvaged a point at Newport County as John Mousinho's first goal for the club secured a 1-1 draw.

The Brewers, who were outmuscled for much of the game, looked to be heading for a 1-0 defeat in South Wales after Ian Sharps' first-half own goal on his 500th Football League appearance.

But Albion dug deep and Mousinho fired home just after half-time following a Phil Edwards cross.

Lucas Akins could have won it late on, but hit the post when one-on-one with Newport keeper Lenny Pidgeley.

Burton were under pressure for long stretches of the encounter at Rodney Meadow but dug deep to avoid defeat.

Although they will not now break the record of wins at the start of a season, the Brewers are unbeaten in five matches.
