EAST Midlands Trains has revealed it is relying on volunteers to help maintain foliage at Burton Train Station.
In a meeting with members of East Staffordshire Borough Council’s scrutiny committee, Carl Wells, customer service manager from East Midlands Trains, said the rail giant was currently in the process of finding ‘community volunteers’ to help with foliage.
He also added he was open to suggestions as to how to begin a recruitment process.
It was noted that work had already been carried out to tidy the foliage between the platforms and that the work on the bridge would be completed by Network Rail by August, and the line would need to be closed in order to carry out the work.
It was agreed that the problem with the lift being locked was due to staffing issues, which were currently being addressed.
This problem only occurred on a Thursday, therefore a proposed change of staffing roster was currently being consulted with the unions, so the company is awaiting the outcomes.
