TWO firms from Burton and South Derbyshire have been highlighted in a new list of the fastest growing firms in terms of international sales.

Ward Recycling, based in Moira Road, Woodville, and Focus Pharmaceuticals, based in Faraday Court, Burton, both feature in the fifth annual Sunday Times HSBC International Track 200 league table this weekend.

The table ranks Britain’s private companies with the fastest-growing international sales.

Ian Stuart, Head of HSBC UK Commercial Banking, spoke to the Mail about the results.

He said: “The Sunday Times International Track 200 continues to provide an interesting insight into the important contribution privately-owned mid-market companies make to the UK economy.

“This year’s league table symbolises the dynamism and innovation this group of companies with international ambitions are famed for.”

Ward Recycling has seen its annual international sales jump by 42 per cent, while Focus recorded an increase of 41 per cent.

This meant that the Woodville-based metal and waste recycler was 92nd on the list, with Focus, a pharmaceutical products licensing giant, came out at 96 during its first appearance on the list.

Focus markets niche generic medicines throughout Britain and overseas, whereas as Ward Recycling collects scrap metal and then exports it to foundries and steelworks worldwide.

Ward Recycling employes 161 people and recorded international sales of £41,737,000 last year.

Focus has just 25 working for the firm and has had international sales of £1,999,000

There are 21 companies from the Midlands this year, with combined sales of £3 billion and their international sales have grown by an average of 51 per cent a year over two years to a total of £1.4 billion.

The International Track 200 is sponsored by HSBC and is compiled by Fast Track, the Oxford-based research and networking events company every single year.
