A BURTON butchers has been awarded a top five score rating by East Staffordshire Borough Council in its latest round of Rate My Place inspections.
Stone and Edwards Family Butchers, based in Calais Road, Horninglow, provides an array of meat to various local businesses and was given a surprise visit by the environmental health team on June 19 with a report having just been published.
In their report, inspectors raised no issues relating to both food hygiene and safety and structure and cleaning, resulting in a perfect score and a five-star rating for the company.
In previous reports of other businesses, particular attention has been drawn to the handling and storage of raw meat due to the high risk of contamination that can occur if the correct procedures are not adhered to. Members of the environmental health team are very careful to make sure that such hazards are raised with business owners and ask for them to be resolved immediately.
However, business owner Lewis Stone said that he does not think twice about undertaking good hygiene practice. He told the Mail: "It's just common sense really, and something that you don't give a second thought to.
"It's part of the job and important practice to make sure that customers are satisfied."
Lewis added that he also does not give much thought to food hygiene when it comes to eating out himself. He said: "When I go out to eat, I tend to visit places that we supply to so I know that they're reputable and have no problems when it comes to food hygiene as well."
