A GROUP of young actors from East Staffordshire are headed to Europe as the UK’s only representatives in the World Drama Festival.
The Anne Lee Players are off to Lingen, in Germany, after being invited to take part in this prestigious event which will include students and players from all over the world in the Theatre of Colours.
This festival is in its 13th year and the Anne Lee Players will perform The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe to an expected audience of 800.
Principal Anne Lee (pictured) said: “We are so looking forward to this and the company is rehearsing every weekend to make it special for Burton and for England.
“There will be a procession through the town on the Saturday evening with all the countries in costume. This will be a thrilling experience for everyone.”
Many of the young actors going on the eight day trip have been assisted with the cost by successfully applying for bursary awards from Burton and District Arts Council. There have also been contributions made by parents and other people and organisations.
Some of the youngsters will be staying with families in Lingen and the organising committee in the town is helping out with meal arrangements.
Drama groups from as far afield as Argentina, Japan, Bangladesh, Uganda and Iran are among the 18 countries taking part.
Mrs Lee added: “This is a thrilling time for the school, The Players and all who are involved here.
“Well done to all the parents for their special support.”
