LIFTERS from the Burton Powerhouse All-Round Weightlifting Academy have taken part in a Viking strongman challenge.
Competitors came from around the country from IAWA-affiliated clubs in Devon, Cornwall, Eastbourne, Walkes, Lancaster, London and Derby.
Athletes contested six events, which were Barrel loading, Thor’s Hammer, farmers walk with Burton barrels, Viking log press, trap bar deadlift and the tyre flip.
Athletes competed across three weight categories for both men and women.
Burton took two of the three men’s division titles, Luke Davis winning the under-80kg class and James Gardner taking the under-100kg title.
The over-100kg division was won by Mark Haydock of Lancaster.
In the ladies competition, Paula Thompson finished in second place in the under-60kg class.
Burton’s Chris Findon finished fourth in the men’s under-80kg division, and young Burton junior Ciro Crispino, 18, finished second in the men’s over-100kg class, also taking the junior title after an excellent performance.
Club chief Steve Gardner said: “It was a great result for us and we’re now in training for the British All-Round Weightlifting Championships in Leicester next month.”
