RECORDS tumbled in the Burton & District Cycling Alliance 50-mile time trial on the A50 between Etwall, Blyth Bridge and Rocester.
An easterly wind on the return leg was not strong enough to slow the riders down with 67 out of 69 riders finishing in less than two hours in the open event.
Jason Seabridge (pictured) finished in 20th place with a time of 1.45.57 – a personal best and a new club record.
Jack Hugill finished in second place in the Alliance event with a time of 1.51.04, a personal best. In fifth place was Ben Startin in a time of 1.55.39 – also a personal best.
Anne Staley finished in 15th place in the Ladies’ event, timing 2.13.30.
Royal Sutton Cycling Club held a series of races on the Curborough Sprint Circuit.
In the senior race for third and fourth category riders over one hour and five laps, Sean Sleigh did well to finish on the podium with third place.
Sleigh’s daughter Lauren also finished in third place in the girls’ under-16 race over 25 minutes.
Bailey Waters rode in the under-16 boys’ race at Solihull on the Tudor Grange Park Circuit to finish in 17th place in the 40 minute race.
Only 19 riders finished out of 144 starters in the National Road Race Championships held in Wales at Abergavenny.
Unfortunately, Mercia’s David Clarke was not one of them, as the majority of the riders were pulled out when they were lapped in the 117-mile hilly race.
The Mercia 10-mile evening time trial attracted an entry of 24 riders.
