SHOPPERS in Burton town centre had an extra obstacle to contend with yesterday after a post which protects shops from being hit by vehicles was shunted out of place.
Bricks were dislodged and pieces of metal exposed as the post was left leaning precariously at an angle in the pedestrianised part of the town centre where High Street meets Station Street.
The post is thought to have been hit by a passing vehicle at a time when Burton's notorious bollards are out of action.
They have been down since March, meaning motorists have been allowed to freely cut through the area which had been designated a no-go area for vehicles.
But, as reported by the Mail yesterday, the bollards' hiatus could be nearing an end after council chiefs said they hoped to be in a position to announce a decision on their future in the near future.
