A BURTON woman who threw a cup at her partner's head will return to court for sentencing.

Claire Nawaz, 25, of Shobnall Close, pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting Bashir Mohammed Zubair by beating at Burton Magistrates' Court.

Magistrates heard how the pair had been arguing at their home on July 25 when the attack took place. After a heated exchange, Nawaz became frustrated, throwing a cup which hit Mr Zubair on the head.

Sarah Smith, prosecuting, said: "The defendant said that they had been arguing because he had been drinking. He cannot remember what happened.

"She threw the cup, causing an injury to the right-hand side of his head."

The court was told that the pair are no longer living together and that their relationship had become quite volatile over the past two years.

Nawaz will appear at Cannock Magistrates' Court for sentencing on September 8.
