SIX food businesses in South Derbyshire have been handed awards in a new scheme which highlights the work of outlets offering 'healthier' options.
Jigsaw Catering at Bison Concrete, in Swadlincote, Elior UK Ltd at Nestle in Hatton, Seaking Fish Bar in Darklands Road, Swadlincote, Jack's Of Melbourne in Derby Road, Melbourne, Frydays Fish Bar in Hearthcote Road, Swadlincote, and Melbourne Fish Bar in Market Place, Melbourne, all received bronze, silver or gold awards in the scheme launched this week.
The Heart of Derbyshire Award allows businesses which achieve three stars or more in food hygiene inspections to get involved.
They can then sign up to offer a number of pledges, from providing healthier food to offering smaller portions and dishes which are guaranteed to be free of certain allergens.
Depending on the number of pledges, the eatery is awarded bronze, silver or gold status.
The Heart of Derbyshire Award is operated by Derbyshire County Council and district councils around the county.
