A 27-YEAR-OLD has taken the plunge into the wide world of self employment to create and redesign business websites.

Shaun Banton, who lives in Tatenhill, has a long background in IT services and, despite his new business being just a month old, he already has a few clients on the books boasting new-look and clearer websites.

The former Pingle pupil said: “I have been in the eCommerce industry for three years. It is basically for new businesses that don’t know how to work certain aspects of the web - seeking to improve and market their existing online presence or with a new website, eBay shop or Amazon store.

“I specialise in search engine optimisation - optimising their website for Google, so their business is one of the first results that comes up.”

Mr Banton is currently working from home but has big ambitions and hopes to set up an office in a year’s time, with the possibility of taking on staff.

He has a wide background in on-the-job training including Burton-based Home Life Direct – whose managing director, Edward Sloane, gave the budding entrepreneur a glowing testimonial highlighting the £800,000 turnover he had with Shaun’s help.

Mr Banton attended Burton and South Derbyshire College where he studied for the National Diploma for IT Practitioners, and also has seven years experience trading on the UK’s biggest online marketplaces, eBay and Amazon and also on custom built eCommerce websites.

He said: “I did the national diploma at college, and have had on the job experience ever since. I have been designing website since I left school mainly as a hobby.

“Over the last two years I have also studied Search Engine Optimisation and Online advertising using Google Adwords and Social Media Marketing.

“I have been thinking about setting up my own business for a while. I have wanted to work for myself and there is now an added incentive

“I started at the beginning of this month and it is going well. I have had quite a few clients now, including John Jepson Academy and have created an online store for them.

“I have previous experience working with small businesses in eCommerce development operations some resulting in a ten fold improvement in traffic and turnover.

“I offer an all round service, with a website tailored for the business.

“I do offer product photography as well. My friend Matt Reeves, who is a wedding photographer, takes the photos and I put them on the website tailored to meet the needs of the business.”

He added: “I am very determined and resourceful and continuously seek to better my knowledge in this field. I would be happy to work with any business seeking to improve and market their existing online presence or with a new website, eBay shop or Amazon store.”
