A MEMBER of the Burton branch of the Damsels in Success group has been named as the most inspiring member of the group in the country at the organisation's annual Women Inspiring Women awards.
Caroline Ashby, 53, received the accolade for the approach she has to her business, The Autism Nanny, which she set up because of her own experiences with a severely autistic child.
Through the company, which she runs from her home in North West Leicestershire, she helps parents who are struggling to deal with aspects of having a child with autism.
Mrs Ashby said: "To be the most inspirational member is a bit overwhelming. I feel like I'm playing in the big league"
Mrs Ashby's daughter was diagnosed with autism when she was two. She made the decision to home-school Emily until she was 13 but then it became clear it would be good for her to go to school.
Now aged 17, she is hoping to go to college in Brighton next year.
"People in this situation are often incredibly isolated. It's very difficult. Families who have children who are autistic can be difficult to find, but I want to help as many as possible," said Mrs Ashby.
