PARENTS throughout South Derbyshire have been given tips and ideas on how to keep their children active over the summer holidays.

The Southern Derbyshire clinical commissioning group (CCG) has published a list of cost-effective summer solutions that make sure children stay active and enjoy the outdoors during their time away from the classroom. A list of ideas for walks has been published on a dedicated site – www.walkingin derbyshire.gov.uk – to inspire families to spend time keeping active together.

Dr Sheila Newport, chair of Southern Derbyshire CCG, says it's also important to make sure that children are protected if they are going to spend an extended amount of time outdoors.

She said: "Don't forget, the sun is at its strongest between 11am and 3pm so if your child is outdoors during this time, make sure they are covered in a high factor sun cream and reapply regularly throughout the day."

The CCG will also be working with the district council to provide a list of summer activities for keeping healthy.
