MOTORISTS have been caught up in traffic chaos after a lorry fire closed both lanes of the southbound carriageway of the A38.
Firefighters from Lichfield and Barton under Needwood were called to the scene between Fradley Park and Streethay at 1.26pm yesterday.
On arrival they found the cab 'well alight' and used water jets and breathing apparatus as they tackled the flames.
Police were alerted to the incident at 1.15pm by an officer on routine patrol.
The force closed both lanes of the southbound carriageway on the A38 and one lane on the northbound carriageway.
Police also created diversions for traffic and confirmed that no-one had been injured.
A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "We were alerted to the fire at 1.15pm by an officer on routine patrol.
"We closed both lanes of the southbound carriageway and one lane of the northbound carriageway and officers created diversions while crews continued to tackle the fire.
"No-one was injured."
