YEARS of hard work and dedication have paid off for a South Derbyshire air cadet.

Jamie Hurrell is a member of the 1211 Swadlincote Squadron and he has been awarded a place on the International Air Cadet Exchange Scheme, which will see him travel to Germany for three weeks in July.

The scheme links air cadets from around the world and places are limited with around 90 from the UK taking part annually.

He said: “When Squadron Commander, Flight Lieutenant Alyn Thompson, asked me to fill in the application form to apply for such a camp, I believed my chances of being awarded a place on such a prestigious scheme would be very slim as in the previous two years, three cadets from our squadron have also been awarded places which has seen them travelling to Turkey, Singapore and Canada.

“So I feel honoured and excited about the prospect of being chosen over so many other outstanding cadets.”

He will be taking part in a wide range of sporting and adventure training activities.
