TWO air cadets from South Derbyshire have been awarded places on a once-in a-lifetime trip to a remote RAF base in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
Cadet warrant officer Brad Tallett and flight sergeant Lewis Mansfield, from the 1211 Swadlincote squadron, will take part in the week long trip.
They will be headed to RAF Ascension Island, a British Royal Air Force station situated on Ascension Island, the isolated volcanic island in the equatorial waters of the South Atlantic Ocean.
The pair will take part in a variety of adventurous training and sporting activities alongside section visits in and around the military base itself.
Mr Tallett said: “I am very excited and feel very honoured at the prospect of being awarded an opportunity to travel abroad with the air cadets and look forward to passing on my knowledge and experiences of the RAF Ascension Islands to the younger cadets upon my return.
“Being rewarded with such a remarkable opportunity proves that hard work and dedication to this organisation.”
