A DAD has bemoaned the state of playground equipment in an area of Burton.

Jake Edmonds has called on councillors in Brizlincote Valley to spruce up facilities in Ashbrook, which he said had become 'tired'.

He was told by Brizlincote Parish Council that the area was not scheduled for immediate improvements, though the authority pledged to investigate whether work could be brought forward.

Bernard Peters, East Staffordshire borough councillor for Brizlincote Valley, backed Mr Edmonds, saying it was important facilities of an acceptable standard were available.

He said: "In a few years children who are six or seven are going to be 12 or 13 and won't use it.

"We're always hearing about young people being obese and not getting enough exercise, so we should make the area as attractive as possible."

Ye gads Sir! Do you know what you are suggesting? Improving play areas might encourage children to use them, think of the noise and disturbance this would cause to nearby residents of said areas and the complaints that would ensue from such a move! No no no, that would never do, play areas should be seen and not heard in my opinion. Goodness me, we are having enough difficulty trying to ban cars and dogs from our eutopian 'Happy Valley' without throwing children into the mix too! :)
