POLICE are appealing for information after a car crashed into a house in Burton last night and the driver fled the scene.

A silver Vauxhall Vectra with a single occupant crashed into the house at approximately 5.51pm.

The car, which was travelling south along Shobnall Street towards Shobnall Road, crashed into a wall, causing bricks to smash the downstairs bedroom window of an elderly occupant.

He was not in the room at the time and escaped injury although concerned neighbours said he has been left shaken by what happened.

One neighbour said she saw a man leave the vehicle and immediately flee the scene.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police told the Mail: “It’s a single vehicle road traffic accident where a vehicle collided with a brick wall at that address. The wall has then fallen onto the house causing minor structural damage. There is no major structural damage to the premises. We are appealing for any information and would like witnesses to contact us using the 101 number.

“In relation to the driver that made off, enquires are still ongoing to locate that driver and we would appeal for any information.”
