YOUNG people leaving care in Burton are never placed into bed and breakfasts, council chiefs have insisted following criticism from senior MPs.
A newly published report raised concerns about the lack of appropriate accommodation available for care leavers, highlighting the fact some were sent to stay in B&Bs, but Mike Lawrence, cabinet member for children at Staffordshire County Council, said young people in Burton were in safe hands.
He said: "As a rule we do not use B&B accommodation and we have a range of options in place, including two children's homes that are able to accommodate young people in crisis or at risk of homelessness.
"Our supported lodgings scheme also gives care leavers the chance to live with a host to learn the life skills they will need to live independently. In addition to this we also have other accommodation providers who can provide high levels of support when needed."
