CHILDREN in care will be given more than £5 million as they seek new accommodation.
Derbyshire County Council’s Derbyshire Children’s Trust is seeking tenders from organisations wishing to provide supervised and supported move-on accommodation for 16 and 17-year-olds who are in care (including those entering care to prevent homelessness) or are care leavers up to the age of 19.
The council will spend £5,473,000 spread across the county until 2016.
In the tender document, the council says: “Young people leaving care have diverse accommodation needs but most are very clear that they want to live in the area they come from and are familiar with.
The county is divided into four regions with more than £2 million being spent in the south east and west of Derbyshire.
The council is seeking to work with up to four lead service providers who can demonstrate continual improvements in value for money achieved by deploying efficient and innovative ways to meet the needs of care leavers.
