Children given summer reading challenge

YOUNGSTERS are being challenged to carry on reading through the summer holidays.

Derbyshire County Council's annual Summer Reading Challenge encourages children of all ages to read up to six books in the summer holidays to maintain reading skills and confidence.

Ellie Wilcox (pictured), the council's communities chief, said: "The Summer Reading Challenge is a great way of encouraging young people to maintain and develop their reading skills while they're not at school."
