GREEN-FINGERED people in South Derbyshire are encouraged to branch out and recycle their Christmas trees.

Trees can be dropped off at various recycling points across the district from now until Thursday, January 10.

Locations include car parks in High Street, Melbourne; Twyford Road, Willington; Darklands Road, Swadlincote; Main Street, Hilton; Woodville Road, Overseal and Station Road, Hatton.

Trees can also be taken to Rosliston Forestry Centre, in Burton Road, Ticknall Village Hall, in Ingleby Lane, and the football ground in Sandypits Lane, Etwall.

All trees will be collected and taken for composting at the Etwall Biffa site.

Councillor Peter Watson, chairman of environmental and development services at South Derbyshire District Council, said: “Recycling Christmas trees helps to reduce waste and gives gardeners a treat.

“We hope our green minded residents will make the most of these collection points.”
