A BURTON church will play host to a special concert this weekend.
Tamarisk Parents’ Choir will be performing with Russian violin virtuoso Yulia Northridge as special guest at an afternoon concert from 3pm on Sunday at St Thomas’ Methodist Church, in Belvedere Road.
Yulia graduated from the Music Academy in Petrozavodsk, Russia in 2002 and came to Derbyshire in 2008 where she has performed many solo concerts as well as leading Derby Concert Orchestra and teaching.
Yulia’s programme on Sunday will include Monti’s fiery Czardas, lighter pieces such as Elgar’s Salut D’Amour and Massenet’s Meditation plus virtuoso works by Fritz Kriesler.
Tamarisk’s programme will include songs by Paul Simon and Madonna plus a rendition of Haydn’s Derbyshire March, commissioned from the famous composer by Sir Henry Harpur of Calke Abbey, in which younger audience members will be invited to play along on cymbals, triangles and drums.
The concert is in aid of church funds and Jessie’s Fund and tickets are £4 in advance and £5 on the door, with people under-16s free.
Tickets can be reserved by calling Richard Syner on 01283 540 276.
