TWO community buildings are to receive more than £250,000 thanks to a successful council grant.

Derbyshire County Council’s Community Building Grants launched the £1 million fund offering voluntary and community organisations one-off capital grants of between £10,000 and £250,000 for building projects or permanent equipment.

The two winners in South Derbyshire are 155th Derby (Etwall) Scout Group which has been awarded £18,940 to refurbish the building to maximise its use by making it available to local community groups. The work includes replacing the flooring in the main hall and meeting room, installing a new boiler and radiators and a complete re-wire including emergency lighting and fire alarm system.

However, the bigger winner is Melbourne Sporting Partnership which has been given £250,000 to provide a new multi-use clubhouse which includes a kitchen, bar, meeting room and viewing balconies.

Councillor Andrew Lewer, Derbyshire County Council leader said: “Community Building Grants are designed to strengthen our commitment to supporting community self-help action where local people are doing their bit to build better communities.”
